Young Filmmakers Program
Food Desert Garden Rescue
We are very concerned with the mental and emotional health of undeserved youth. Our approach to addressing this critical issue, is to provide an outlet for them to be heard on their own terms.
We created our young filmmakers program to give voice to stories that are buried within the hearts and minds of our students. Our young filmmakers program teaches students the basics of screen writing, producing, filming, editing, and pitching a project. Students use storyboards and take still shots to develop set design ideas for their films. This program gives students an engaging outlet for expressing their creativity and managing the stress of their daily lives. The program is headed by an energetic and talented young screen writer, producer, and director. In addition to reducing daily stress, this program exposes students to career paths in the film and media industry.
Our Food Desert Garden Rescue Program was created to improve the physical health and wellness of youth ages 5 - 18, and stave off childhood obesity, which is rampant in the neighborhoods we serve. The families served by this program reside in food deserts, which we define as neighborhoods with limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables, due to lack of funds or unavailable sources.
